Sunday. Wake to a blizzard, want to take a snow picture. Darragh and Joanna somehow get to the house. It's freezing and blindingly white out. I imagine an all white picture with only the doll's head in color. Darragh and Joanna dress the doll in my white North Face parka, white Puma track pants with a gold stripe, black snow boots and Joanna's white knit hat. We take the doll outside and lean her against a tree. Her posture and position are especially good today. There's a natural bend, if I can call it that, in her body. She projects a nonchalance and kind of exuberance at having a snow day. Joanna wants to step into the picture. My camera wants to go the real girl. Joanna makes the love doll seem less beautiful. --- Laurie Simmons
